Ivan Pavlov’s work on conditioned reflexes seems as relevant today as it did in the early 1900s...
Meet Peter Tisch, a 31 year old sales associate from Bakersville, North Carolina. Peter has been conditioned to automatically go out and make absurd purchases as soon as he has money in his hands.
“I can’t explain it,” said Tisch, “It’s like I get paid on Friday, and then later that Friday I’m broke and all I have to show for it is a new hoverboard and an aftermarket car key that starts my car without me actually being in the car.”
Could Peter be the 2017 version of Pavlov’s dog? Seems pretty likely. Is there anything we can do to help? Probably not. Peter said that he has considered starting a fund for research on how to fix his condition, but passed on the idea after realizing he would probably just spend whatever money he raised on new speakers or something else dumb.
“I guess I'm just helpless at this point. This is who I am and that’s my lot in life. I’m the 2017 Pavlovian dog,” concluded Peter, atop a mountain of newly purchased Blu-Ray players.
