The SolarBall will be demoed in October.
Basketballs are as awe-inspiring as they are wasteful. Typically, a standard basketball becomes trash soon after it gets shot through a hoop, either by sinking into the hardwood floor or crashing into an fan’s stomach and exploding. This is why basketball is widely known as the world’s most expensive sport.
Kobe Bryant plans to change all of that. GreenTeam, founded and run by recently retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant, is working hard to end this wasteful tradition. Early Monday morning, GreenTeam issued a statement that the world’s first solar powered basketball is currently in development.
"This is going to be a huge revolution for basketball,” said Bryant. “It's taken 15 years to get the Solarball to this point.”
Bryant hopes to demo the solar powered ball by October 15th, just a few weeks before the start of the NBA regular season. By January of 2019, Bryant hopes to replace all existing basketballs in the world with his new solar ball.
This is peak innovation. When Bryant retired, the press raised endless questions about what he would do with his time. No one, however, could have predicted something as game-changing as this.
