Well this is just sad...
For the first few innings at the Wilton Renegade's last game of the season, everything seemed to be going smoothly; every player had gotten on base, nobody was injured, and everyone remembered their cleats. Unfortunately, all of that was overshadowed by Dan Cohn's dad getting belligerently drunk and running out onto the field and passing out.
You hate to see this kind of damper on a great day of baseball. To make matters worse, it isn't an isolated incident. Mr. Cohn has been visibly drunk at three out of the twelve Renegade games, which has led a lot of parents to draw some pretty horrific conclusions.
"He's a violent alcoholic," said Carol Shaw, mother of 3rd baseman Nick Shaw, "I don't want him anywhere near my Nick."
Pete Inperiro, father of the Renegades powerhouse Dave Inperiro, took a more liberal approach to assessing the situation: "Part of me thinks he's just been drinking more because he got laid off. If that's the case, I'm fine with it. It's not like he's driving home, his wife is with him and she's completely sober. On the other hand, it worries me a little bit that he yells 'Remember the belt?' at Dan from the sideline. More will be revealed I guess."
Wow. No matter which theory you're subscribing to, there is no denying that this is not a good situation.
